The WWII RAF Group was formed early in 2010 after much set building associated with our desire to establish a reasonable working portrayal of a Battle of Britain RAF Fighter Command Emergency Operations Room. Worcester Re-enactors provided us with the perfect environment in which to launch the “Ops Room” as part of their multi period Living History in Worcester envent, our first ever display being in the Tudor House Worcester in February 2010. Since then we have steadily improved the display and introduced additional features, including a “Pipsqueak Board” (used to triangulate the position of friendly aircraft). We were very proud to support the RAF Museums Battle of Britain event at Cosfprd in September 2010 and we must have been doing something right as we were invited back early in 2011 for the Spitfire anniversary event. On that occasion we were delighted to meet more veterans from WWII and provide a backdrop to their Q&A session in the Auditorium.
We continue to grow stronger as a Group and to develop additional displays and scenarios, including a Dispersal, displays of Bomber Command navigation equipment and escape equipment, which both old and young audiences appear to find most interesting.
We are a self funding group, established with our own hard earned cash (as re-enactment groups tend to be), however we have been able to raise in the region of £850 for military charities in 2010 and we aim to beat this in 2011. many thanks to all who have given to the cause.
